Sad news: little more than a week apart, two of our best-known Society stalwarts have died.
It came as a shock to all of us when Jean Shirer had a stroke following an operation for renal cancer on 14th September.  Her condition failed to improve, and she died in the early hours of Saturday 25th September in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  Her funeral took place on 8th October, and she is buried at Skene with her husband Jim.
Gay Murton had survived several bouts of cancer and treatment, and she had already beaten expectations of living with the latest recurrence.  Her husband Barry had been caring for her at home, but recently she was admitted to Roxburghe House hospice, where she died on Monday, 4th October.  Her funeral is expected to be private, with a celebratory mass at a later date.
Obituaries will appear in Journal 161 (November).  We are sorry to impart this double bad news about two much-loved volunteers who were such characters.  Members who wish to leave a message may do so in a new category that is now open in the Members' Forum when you log in to this website.
